Tuesday, April 24th

Today I returned to the Pew Project (among several other chores) by removing the fabric & padding, removing an end piece and cutting the bench down to length.  I also pulled out about a bazillion staples.  There are many left, but they are all at or below the surface; to get them out I'll have to dig them out enough to get a hold on them with pliers.

It is still undecided how these are to be finished/refinished.  The owner isn't sure if she wants them "touched up" but left with the original finish or stripped and done over.

  1. I'd probably opt for touching up - I love the look of old, used wood furniture. (Sans staples of course. :-) )

    1. That would be my choice too, Lisa. And it was the impression given when we started this project, but minds change...

  2. a bazillion staples is a lot of staples... and a lot of work. Looks like the end result will be worth it though--no matter which way the owner decides.

    1. They are pretty, Lynda, but well used. Making them pristine will take a lot of detail work, which is quite time consuming. When working on an hourly rate that type of work tends to shoot the price up.
